TMR Network on
PHASE TRANSITIONS IN CRYSTALLINE SOLIDS
(Contract Number FMRX-CT98-0229)
Open-ended offer of doctoral and post-doctoral positions for European nationals in the period Sep 1, 1998 - Aug 31, 2002.
Eight teams, comprising leading mathematicians, mechanists and materials scientists from various European countries, are participating to a joint research effort to study phase transitions in crystalline solids and their applications to the design of new materials and devices. The teams belong to the following Institutions:
A number of doctoral and post-doctoral position are being offered, and will be offered during the years 1998-2002, as an essential part of the Network's activity. The desired scientific background of the candidates to the positions offered includes the following areas: nonlinear thermomechanics, statistical mechanics, PDEs and calculus of variations, group theory and crystallography, numerical methods for the solutions of PDE's, optimal control theory, experiments on shape-memory alloys, thin film preparation and some knowledge of electron microscopy with emphasis on the study of microstructures and phase transformations.
